The Paleo Foodie Cookbook by Arsy Vartanian – Review and Giveaway
My friend Arsy Vartanian of Rubies & Radishes released her new book The Paleo Foodie Cookbook this spring. This book has 120 nutrient dense delicious Paleo recipes. You can take a sneak peek into her book release party HERE . Hanging out with my blogger buddies is always a good time!
Arsy grew up in a traditional Middle Eastern family watching her grandma and mother cook foods that were innately Paleo, little did she know at the time. Like many of us she went through a phase of adopting the SAD diet and then on to vegetarianism and her health started faltering. When she went Paleo in 2008 the brain fog cleared and the grass fed meat went on the table.
Arsy is my close friend who I met through blogging. She lives near me in Santa Cruz, Ca which is about 1.5 hours south of SF. I recently got to visit her her adorable family and see their cute beach town.
We were so lucky to sample some of her delicious food. She made her signature pureed carrots that have cilantro and olive oil. They were really amazing. We also had grass fed ribeye steaks from with her flavorful chimichurri. We also had a fresh salad with beets and homemade dressing. For dessert we had seasonal fruit.
Another chance I had to try her food was at her book release party. There were two dishes there that really stood out to me: her beet soup and her panna cotta dessert. The beet soup was bright red of course with a hint of spice. It was so different than any other soup I ever had. I kept getting refills on it because I loved it and beets are so good for the liver. Get the recipe here:
The pomegranate pannacotta was amazing because it was so light and creamy. I would have never known it was gelatin because most gelatin desserts are so thick and gummy (the recipe is on her blog.)
The Paleo Foodie is Arsy’s second cookbook, you might be familiar with her first book The Paleo Slow Cooker. The Paleo Foodie has recipes which are a little more advanced than slow cooker recipes but they are not too complicated either. Arsy creates traditional recipes with international flair and a paleo twist. These recipes are sure to wow your non-paleo dinner guests, they won’t even know its paleo! While the recipes are definitely “Foodie” worthy they are also easy enough to make for dinner at home.
The book also has great nutrition info such as which fats to eat, how to save money on Paleo and how to get started on the diet/lifestyle transition.
