The Paleo Approach Book Review and Giveaway

March 5, 2014 By Caitlin Weeks

Did you know that an estimated 50 million Americans suffer from one form of autoimmune disease or another?  Yea, that number is huge and I’m included in that stat.  I have Hashimotos, you can read my Hashi story HERE .  When I heard that my friend Sarah Ballantyne of The Paleo Mom was writing The Paleo Approach I was thrilled! We’ve had her on The Health Nuts Podcast 2x’s…you can listen to those episodes HERE and HERE. Let me start off by saying that this book will be a godsend to so many people suffering from autoimmune disorders.  You will learn how to reverse your autoimmune disease and heal your body. The Paleo Approach Book Review

The Paleo Approach Book Review

The Paleo Approach is broken down into two parts, Part 1: The Cause and Part 2: The Cure.  In Part 1 Sarah breaks down the science behind autoimmune disease, the cause, dietary and lifestyle factors that contribute to autoimmunity. Once you know exactly what’s going on inside your body you can move on to the Paleo approach diet lifestyle and implementation.  Every chapter has a review at the end which is really helpful because you are absorbing so much information. Don’t be intimidated by the science in this book, Sarah is really good at explaining it all, like Robb Wolf says in the foreword, “…makes you feel like you’re sitting around the kitchen table discussing health with a close friend…a damn smart close friend!”. In Part 2 Sarah shows you how to troubleshoot and essentially tweak the Paleo Approach Diet to fit your personal needs.  She calls it the FAQ Headquarters of the book.  There is so much more in this book, I could write up a report…but I’ll give you highlights instead. The Paleo Approach Highlights: Detailed explanation of the science behind autoimmune disorders (easy to understand science)  A list of over 100 autoimmune diseases    List of foods to include and foods to eliminate, along with detailed “whys?”    Explanations of hormones, what they do and how they affect your body    How to regulate and manage lifestyle (stress, sleep and activity) to improve health How to talk to your Doctor about following this approach    Troubleshooting, digestion support, supplements  that are good and bad    Checklist for troubleshooting, this will help you pinpoint where you need to focus your efforts   Testimonials from some of your favorite bloggers (including Stacy of The Paleo Parents)    Glossary of terms, summary guides, nutrient tables (vitamins minerals, carbs, sugars) in order to address micronutrient deficiencies with whole foods instead of supplements  Scientific references for anyone that wants to go back to the original research Most of us have been dismissed by mainstream medical practitioners, sent home with no more than a few prescriptions, and in so many words told to live with our autoimmune disease.  If you follow my blog or any of the other paleo blogs out there, you know that’s not true, you can improve your symptoms or even reverse your ailments by following a Paleo diet. For those of us suffering from an autoimmune disorder or disorders, yes that’s plural…a lot of people have more than one!  We need more, detailed guidelines to follow and knowledge… because knowing what’s going on in our body is half the battle.  The Paleo Approach does just that.  Sarah tells us the science behind Autoimmunity, why we got sick in the first place and the exact steps we need to take in our path to remission and ultimate health.  I can’t recommend this book enough! You can read more about The Paleo Approach HERE You can also preorder her cookbook HERE Don’t forget to Pin it: paleoapproach-pin   I’m giving two away to two different people!  Enter to win a copy below:

I just got my copy of this book and it is gorgeous. It’s heavy, full of diagrams and pictures and information. I’m trying to get through the first, scientific part (phew…….hard to do) but what a wonderful and comprehensive book this is.
