Russian River Swim and BBQ

July 17, 2012 By Caitlin Weeks

Russian River Swim and BBQ

This weekend I suggested that we drive up to Russian River in Sonoma County because it is one of the few places you can actually swim without a wetsuit. We brought some beach chairs and blankets so we could chill out and get some Sunday relaxation. We soaked up some crucial vitamin D for a while and swam in the river. Then we found a great place to grill our paleo picnic at Armstrong Redwoods State Park.

Some snacks while we grilled: Brie, tomatoes and avocado

We grilled burgers and organic chicken

I really think that people get off balance when they don’t get enough fresh air or exposure to nature. It was funny that on this trip both of our phones died and we were without them for about 4 hours. It was rough, let me tell you! That is what I mean, no wonder people today have ADD/ ADHD and anxiety. We are constantly doing 10 things at once. We can’t enjoy the present because we are not in the moment because we are on e-mail, Facebook and twitter.

It was really cool to just be riding in the car and talking (not staring at my phone). Also we took some time to just sit in the stillness and enjoy the silence of the redwood forest (while waiting for our food to cook). I hope you make some time each week to get into nature and reconnect with earth and it’s vital renewing essence. I highly recommend you visit Geurneville/Russian River and Armstrong Woods when you get a chance!

Please leave a comment below and tell me some of your favorite places to visit to get back to nature ?
