Homemade Hair Detangler Recipe

November 8, 2016 By Caitlin Weeks

homemade_hair_detangler_sq

I have been using this homemade hair detangler recipe ever since I looked at the back of my detangler bottle a few years ago and I looked into the alarming ingredients.

Ingredients in J&J No More Tangles:
Water, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Trisiloxane, Hydroxyethyl Behenamidopropyl, Dimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Ceteth10, Laureth4.

Scary, right? I only kind of know what a few of those are, and I definitely don’t want any unknown “fragrance” hanging out in my hair. Just the word “fragrance” can be code for over 300 chemicals and can just be labeled with the innocuous sounding word fragrance. I usually don’t need detangler except in the winter because I wear a coat or scarf pretty much the whole season that rubs against the back of my hair and turns it into a rat’s nest by the end of the day. This recipe doesn’t make my hair greasy which is a MUST!

I usually need detangler all year but in the winter  even more so because I wear a coat or scarf pretty much the whole season which rubs against the back of my hair and turns it into a rat’s nest by the end of the day. This recipe doesn’t make my hair greasy which is a MUST!

All of the ingredients are gentle and they smell amazing. The frankincense and copaiba combo are great for winter as it is calming and soothing for effect that cold air affects hair. The lavender and peppermint combo is invigorating and for a great pick me up. I have also sprayed this over my head when I was feeling some head and neck tension and it felt so calming. There are no preservatives in the recipe, so it makes a small batch. I keep it in the fridge and just shake and spritz on after a shower and comb the knots out. I have used it to detangle without showering as well. You can’t go wrong!
