My Husband and I were honored to be on the Jimmy Moore Livin La Vida Low Carb Show. Jimmy is a Paleo advocate who lost nearly 200 lbs following an atkins then a ketogenic paleo diet. Read more of his story here. Listen as Jimmy interviews us about our new e-cookbook which is a fusion of Paleo principles and the healthiest parts of Mediterranean diet!
In Episode 743 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we’ve got a really fabulous husband-wife team of Paleo e-cookbook authors named Caitlin Weeks And Nabil Boumrar. One of the best parts of the tremendous growth of the Paleo movement in recent years is the incredible diversity we are seeing of the people who are involved in promoting it to others. Having a wide variety of voices giving their own take on what a Paleo-styled cuisine can look like is going to help make this way of living more accepted and go mainstream faster than anything else. This is something nutritionist and Paleo blogger Caitlin Weeks from the “Grass Fed Girl” blog along with her professional chef husband Nabil Boumrar know just a thing or two about. Nabil specializes in the Mediterranean cuisine he grew up with as a native of the coastal capitol Algiers, Algeria which inspired his passion of blending Arab, African and European flavors to make unique Paleo dishes unlike anything you’ve tasted before. With Caitlin’s heavy involvement in the Paleo community in recent years, it made sense that she and Nabil would team up to create a fabulous new e-bookbook entitled Mediterranean Paleo Cookbook: Over 135 Grain-Free Recipes To Tempt Your Palate.
Listen in as I talk to Caitlin and Nabil about the unique kind of recipes inspired by Nabil’s family that they share about in their e-book, Caitlin’s journey from low-fat to Paleo, her new show “The Health Nuts Podcast,” how Nabil wasn’t really into Paleo when Caitlin first started eating this way, his 30-day trial of Paleo that convinced him to do it for real, the “seasonal” way his family ate growing up in Algeria, how they don’t waste any part of the animal, how he never heard of “organic” before coming to the United States, the aversion that Americans have to different kinds of real foods like organ meats, why they decided to add yet another Paleo cookbook out there, the benefits of doing a Mediterranean-styled Paleo, the surprising creator of the Mediterranean diet, the “rustic” trip they took to research for this cookbook, the freshness of the food in Algeria, the “eat, eat, eat” saying Nabil’s mom would say when it was feeding time, the intricate role that dietary fat plays in this kind of cuisine, the absolute staples of eating this way, the interesting spice added to all the meat dishes, why Nabil’s mom never cooked with olive oil, the difficulty for Nabil to transition to cooking Paleo, how their cooking has changed over the years, they do include a pizza recipe in the book, the super-easy dressings you can make at home, the “Nutritionist Tips” and “Chef’s Tip” sprinkled throughout the book (Nourishing Traditions-lite!), whether this e-cookbook is appropriate for people on a low-carb diet, whether there are plans to make this available in a paper version, and so much more. ENJOY my fascinating chat with this beautiful Paleo couple.
