Cholesterol Clarity and Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts on the Go Review and Giveaway
Review of Jimmy’s Book: Cholesterol Clarity:
Jimmy Moore has been a long time friend and has always been a cheerleader for me in my blogging efforts. He used to be over 400 lbs and lost a ton of weight on a low carb diet. When Jimmy was obese he took a slew of medications including cholesterol lowering drugs with some very negative consequences such as joint pain.
This experience made him look deeper into the cholesterol issue and see what was behind his cholesterol problems. Also he wanted to find out if cholesterol is really the issue behind heart disease. He decided to interview the leaders in the field to help others find the truth about getting heart healthy an wading through the medical dogma.
In his new book he writes with Dr Eric Westman, author of New Atkins for a New You who I met on the low carb cruise in 2012.
We will learn amazing lessons in this book such as:
- Why your LDL-C and total cholesterol numbers may not be as important in determining your health as your doctor may think
- The undeniable negative role chronic inflammation plays in your health
- Why cholesterol-lowering Statin drugs don’t necessarily solve your heart health concerns
- Why your doctor should be testing for LDL particles and particle size
- Why HDL and triglycerides are far more predictive of health concerns than LDL-C and total cholesterol
- Why consuming saturated fat is good and why carbohydrates are detrimental to attaining the best cholesterol numbers
- Why there is a growing number of physicians, researchers and nutritionists who believe treating cholesterol numbers is virtually irrelevant
This book also features experts: Dr. William Davis, Dr. Ronald Krauss, Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, Dr. Robert Lustig, Dr. Duane Graveline, Dr. Jonny Bowden, Dr. Chris Masterjohn, Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr. John Briffa, Dr. Thomas Dayspring, Dr. Fred Pescatore, Gary Taubes and over a dozen more!
When I was in nutrition school I learned that heart disease is really a result of inflammation and it due to new fangled foods such industrial seed oils like corn and canola oil as well as processed foods such as cereal, chips, cookies. Another culprit is chronic high and low blood sugar from so called “healthy whole grains” which cause arterial wear and tear. I am so glad Jimmy Moore and Dr. Westman are shedding light on this issue that is hurting so many people. Many people trust their doctors and take the pills that are offered up but there are many dangerous side effects of cholesterol lowering drugs such as type 2 diabetes and memory problems. Also taking medication does not address the underlying causes of inflammation. I have written about this cholesterol several times if you want to read more:

I highly recommend Jimmy’s new book for people who are new to this lifestyle or for anyone who still thinks cholesterol is the problem when it comes to heart disease. Get with the times and get Cholesterol Clarity!
Review of Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts on the Go: Diana Rogers is a very knowledgeable nutritional therapist who I have had the pleasure of meeting several times. She is in school to become a registered dietician and she is a wife and mother of two. She runs Clark Farm with her husband where they have a CSA. She also has a great blog at Sustainable Dish. She also sees nutrition clients at Radiance Nutrition. Diana has been featured as an expert at Paleo FX as well. She also decided in all her free time (lol) to write a book on Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts on the Go. I got to dine on a bunless burger with Diana at AHS 2011 and one thing I learned about her was that she overcame severe digestive problems and being diagnosed with Celiac disease. She was a sickly child but overcame her health problems with healing traditional foods and the Paleo diet. She is also an energetic Crossfitter! I have decided she must be super woman! This book is artistically done and it will help people who have want to do Paleo but do not think they have time to cook their own food. It is beautifully photographed and she offers lots of easy ideas such as simple soups, meat wraps, crackers and smoothies.
Even Chris Kresser is singing her praises: “The book is an excellent resource for anyone brand new to Paleo, those who don’t want to spend a great deal of time or energy cooking, and even those who are daunted by the more complicated recipes that often fill the pages of most cookbooks. While I always appreciate the chance to be a gourmet chef, some days you only have time to throw together a quick salad, and Diana’s book gives great inspiration for keeping your simple meals interesting.” I think Diana Rogers is someone we can feel comfortable following in this ancestral health movement who is not going to tell us to eat lean meat or canola oil! She is the real deal and I know you will love her book! One lucky winner will be chosen for both of these health books! You must be on my newsletter to win! a Rafflecopter giveaway
Just began my Paleo journey and could definitely use some help in the breakfast and lunch department! And can’t wait to read more on cholesterol…I’ve got my dad convinced it’s good and necessary. But my mother the nurse…not so much…
Both of these books sound very interesting – I would love to win them! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂
As we move forward with our healthy eating quest, it is good to read as much as we can and get insider’s experience. Would love to read these books.
This cholesterol thing has me intrigued. I have great numbers now that I am Paleo and aim to keep them that way. Also, lunches for my daughters school lunch are the hardest so need lots of ideas!
The books look like a great read. My mother has high cholesterol and I have been trying to convince her to try paleo to reduce it.
I would love to win these books! I need ideas on lunches to take to work.
I’m very interested in the info on cholesterol, because mine is over 300 if I don’t take simvastatin, regardless of what I eat. My body just manufactures it. But the question is, is it harmful to me? I don’t have any other heart disease risks, other than the fact my dad died of heart disease (a man who smoked for over 60 years and was a fireman until his first heart attack). So I’d liked to learn more. And I’ve been debating about the Paleo Lunches & Breakfasts On The Go for awhile now! I really would love these books! 🙂
I have both theses books on my wish list! I’m so impressed with all the great books being released from the real food/paleo community – wish I could buy them all! Thanks for hosting this giveaway 🙂
Thanks for reading Lisa!
I’ve been listening to Jimmy Moore do the podcast network and realize THIS is the book I need to show people to believe when I explain that cholesterol isn’t the enemy. I’d love to share it with my parents, especially.
And Paleo Lunches And Breakfasts On The Go would be for ME ! Haha sounds like a great addition to my recipe collection, and would help me in packing my lunches for work in the morning.
Excellent giveaway combo.
I’m new to the paleo world, so I’m trying to get my hands on everything possible to learn about it! Thanks for hosting the nice giveaway!
I’d love to win these books! After I check them out, I have several people in mind that would benefit from them! Thanks for the opportunity!
These books are on my current to-get list!
I really want to win because the cholesterol “epidemic” in this country is so misinformed. I want to be informed about the hows and whys so I can be educated in this are. Lunches and breakfasts on the go is a great added bonus!
Thanks, Caitlin!
I would love to win this giveaway to show my dad, an M.D., that his conventional education about saturated fat, cholesterol, and cardiovascular outcomes were WRONG and that we’ve been so misled. And knowing how to better make lunches would be fantastic!
I have been eyeing the Paleo Lunches To Go book for a while. What a great giveaway!
I really want to read Cholesterol Clarity after several arguments I’ve had about the subject with others. Question…could twitter not be a requirement to unlock the other entries? I don’t have and don’t desire a twitter account. Maybe make it twitter or facebook share?
Both of these books sound so good!!!
ME ME ME!!!!
Hi! Your blog is awesome!
Thanks Catherine!
Hi I’m new to Paleo lifestyle and my boyfriend has a very high cholesterol level.. would definitely like to win both book !!!
I would really like to win this giveaway! I’m a type II diabetic, switching to a paleo/primal lifestyle per my M.D. My diabetes is under control with diet and exercise. But it could be better, so I’m switching to paleo. The recipe for lunches and breakfasts would be a great help!! Also, I struggle with high cholesterol, and also hoping switching to paleo will help me get it lower and stay away from medications for it. So, I’d love to learn more about cholesterol, so I can talk smart with Doctors and fight for my health.
Would love to grab both of these books. I’m a stay-at-home mom with 2 kids ready to head back to school. I’m going to be doing a lot of volunteer work at school, as well as looking at getting a part-time job. Food on the go is going to be a must!! And with following a Paleo lifestyle, I have people drop their jaws when I tell them what it is that I eat every day…..in terms of meat, eggs, and fats. Jimmy Moore’s book would be an amazing read to help me answer questions that I get all the time.
Just started hard core grain-free this week. Need recipes please!
I would love to win paleo lunch and breakfasts on the go! I have a preschooler who is hard to keep fed during the day – this book would be great!
I’m really looking forward to Jimmy’s book and I can always use new recipes!
I am new to the Paleo world and would love these books. I am working very hard to heal my body from fibromyalgia. I also suspect I have adrenal fatigue and hormone imbalances.
This old girl loves your blog, recipes & podcasts! Keep them coming 🙂
I’d love the lunches. I have the hardest time deciding on what to make for lunch for myself and my family.
I would love to win! I have been wanting to order both of these!
