I have to admit I hate washing my hair because it is very long and thick. When I looked at the ingredients in dry shampoo at sephora I was appalled at the amount of ingredients that I could not pronounce. I am a firm believer that if we would not eat it we should not put it on our skin or body because the skin is a sieve right into the bloodstream. I was relieved to know that I had this recipe in my bathroom cabinet for those times when you just need one more day between washes.
These dry shampoos are created for each hair type to help refresh hair between washes. Each recipe is formulated to match hair color, and an uplifting fragrance with the benefit of essential oils. My little sister and I recently finished our essential oils e-book that has 40 recipes that are great for learning how to use essential oils around the house. We both have cleaned up our beauty routines as well as our home tidying methods. Learn all our secrets here:
Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: N/A
Yield: 3 to 4 oz. (about 1/2 cup)
Natural Dry Shampoo in 3 Shades
Base Ingredients:
4 tablespoons arrowroot, tapioca, or non-gmo cornstarch
4 drops peppermint essential oil
4 drops lavender essential oil
For Brunettes
4 tablespoons cocoa
For Blondes
3/4 teaspoon turmeric
For Red Heads
2 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Instructions:
Mix the dry ingredients in a small, very dry bowl and mix well with a dry spoon. If the coloring seems too light or too dark for your hair, add one teaspoon of arrowroot (to lighten) or the coloring agent (to darken: cocoa, paprika/cumin,or turmeric – depending on which recipe you are making) and mix well. Add the essential oils drop by drop and mix well again. Transfer to an airtight container, such as a clean and dry spice jar or small glass jar. When using use a blush or foundation brush to apply to dry hair, starting at the front and working your way back. Run a comb or brush through your hair several times after applying to help distribute evenly.
