We hear it all the time ” I am going to diet in the new year and everything will be different.” But the reality is you are still you and you still get hungry and get cravings. Your body still needs nourishment and your brain still needs to run so you will need to eat several times a day. The difference is that you can choose smarter ways to fuel your body that will help you have more energy and lose weight.
6 Tips for Making Smarter New Year’s Resolutions
1. Detox in a smarter way
Choose a whole food detox that will balance hormones and help you identify food sensitivities. Choose a plan that will keep blood sugar balanced and energy up. I highly recommend this program that reduces sugar and grains to increase fat burning. It is a way of cleaning out your liver while staying nourished with healthy fats and grass fed proteins. 2. Kick the weight with Keto
If you have dieted over and over you may have severe insulin resistance or metabolic problems. Some people can only find help by going into ketosis. It has many benefits such as calming down inflammation and improved glucose control. Read my article about it here:
3. Follow your gut
If your stomach is knots all the time or you have gas or bloating, your body is trying to tell you something. The gut is the root of health and if you are having gastric distress such as constipation, bloating or diarrhea, another diet is not what you need. You have to heal from the inside out. Try incorporating probiotics such as this one , it has many strains that are not found in our deficient food supply. Add a great deal of my bone broth and my gelatin recipes to your daily menu and check out the some gaps diet principles for healing digestion. Make my sauerkraut and add it to your menu daily like people used to for thousands of generations.
4. Stop the self hate
Sometimes we are so stuck in what the media thinks is appealing that we begin a full on hate campaign against ourselves. The truth is that the people on TV and in magazines are not real. They have teams of people to help them look beautiful not to mention Photoshop and plastic surgery. Before you pick up the next issue of Cosmo, find some old pictures from your grandma’s album and see what people in your family looked like 100 years ago. I bet they were healthy looking and fit but not supermodel skinny. Adjust your expectations and pick out 3 or 4 beautiful things about yourself right now. Focus on the beautiful and positive and it will multiply in your life!
5. Get quiet to find the answer
The answer lies within you. You know what your body needs deep down. You know how much to eat and what kind of exercise makes you feel your best but you are in too big of a hurry to listen to your inner voice. The best thing you can do to get in touch with your intuition is to start a daily meditation practice. It will lower cortisol and increase feel good neurotransmitters which will go a long way in helping you lose weight. If you have more feel good neurotransmitters your craving will go down and you will have the energy to exercise. Read my simple mediation guide here and get started now!
6. Start with an attitude of gratitude
Sometimes I get down in the dumps and compare my life to others and say “…woe is me!”.. but then I snap out of it. I think, I have my health, a great husband, a loving family, great friends and so much more. Just because my body is not perfect or I am not Jennifer Anniston is not something to be sad about. Make a gratitude list of all the things in your life to be happy about and in no time you will rearrange your thoughts. Hint Hint: this has a hormone modulating effect too that will help you with weight loss and stress!
